The Employee Is Always Right
This article caught my eye in this Week’s businessweek. It’s about an Indian firm that allows the employees to rate their bosses. The catch is that the rating are available for anyone to see on the company Intranet (anyone who submits a vote is allowed to view). What a fantastic idea!
I imagine the first response of any boss would be that they wouldn’t want employee grievances aired in public. They’d be afraid some nut-case would slander them in public, influencing their career. I suspect, however, that once that the initial fear wears off, this would serve as an invaluable resource for the managers. One of the most difficult things for any leader to get is accurate feedback about their performance. Although painful at first, I suspect these managers will be well on the way to becoming much stronger leaders and the company will be better in turn.
